ExpandNet Activities

Providing technical
assistance to country projects
ExpandNet has developed an approach to working with country teams in a field-based
and facilitated process for developing scaling-up strategies. This entails
using the Nine Step Guide to Develop
a Scaling-up Strategy and
the associated
worksheets with country teams in a participatory process, undertaking
field trips with senior program managers to understand the environment in
which
scaling
up
takes
place, and
finally culminates in a multi-stakeholder workshop. Follow up technical assistance
is provided to countries and projects who seek such support.

Organizing technical meetings
Periodically ExpandNet / WHO organizes meetings that bring together
senior public health professionals with expertise in scaling
up to advance understanding in a given technical area. Most recently a two-day
meeting was held May 6-7, 2009 at the University of Michigan School of Public
Health
in Ann Arbor, Michigan to review
existing knowledge, tools and frameworks for scaling up health service innovations.
Participants included a diverse group of leaders
from governmental and non-governmental
organizations, donor and technical
agencies,
and research institutions/universities.
The meeting's key conclusions are
assembled in a document entitled "Priorities for Supporting Successful
Scaling up of Health Innovations".

ExpandNet promotes wider information-sharing about scaling up
through workshops, meeting participation, and facilitating
South-to-South exchange. ExpandNet/WHO has provided a number of workshops
for technical assistance agencies to share approaches and lessons learned.

The
ExpandNet website
ExpandNet is dedicated to wide sharing of information of lessons and experience
about scaling up from around the world with the public. Materials produced
by WHO/ExpandNet are made freely available on this website. We hope that
the public health community will inform us of how our tools are being used
in the field by contacting us.
Some ExpandNet members and colleagues with whom we have worked in countries
have provided their insights about scaling up in the form of video interviews.
Please visit the ExpandNet Discussion
Series.
ExpandNet maintains and updates on this website a
bibliography of scaling
up-related materials and resources. We
hope visitors find this useful and are encouraged to provide us
